Why pay for windshield wiper fluid? It's easy and inexpensive to make.
Steps:
1. Combine 3 c. household window cleaner with 1 gallon water in a pail.
2. Mix well.
3. Open the hood of your car.
4. Pour the fluid in the windshield wiper fluid reservoir. (Use a funnel to avoid spilling fluid.)
5. Close the hood.
Make sure to dilute the window cleaner or it will leave streaks.
If you live in a cold climate, make sure the homemade fluid won't freeze in the tank, as this can damage cars. Make a small batch of fluid and place it in the freezer overnight. If the fluid freezes, don't use it.
Add 1 or 2 tablespoons of liquid HAND dishwashing detergent to washer reservoir and stir. This will eliminate streaking and will not remove wax from paint as ammonia does.
The tip for making your own windshield wiper fluid will work fine as long as the outside temps don't fall below 32 deg. (freezing). This fluid will freeze making your windshield wipers non-functional!
When traveling, I always keep a spray bottle full of windshield cleaner in a box in the trunk. I also include a sponge with netting around it for removing bugs (the soft non-scratch type). Also include a towel and a small squeegee.
Use it in summer, winter use may cause it to freeze in the tubing, leaving you without windshield wiper fluid when you need it the most.
